BEDC, TCN forge alliance for customer satisfaction in power sector

BEDC Electricity Plc. (BEDC) and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Benin Zone, have held a joint coordination meeting to resolve common operational issues affecting both parties with a resolution that they would continue to work together as critical partners in the power sector value chain that are dependent on each other.

This is coming on the heels of the on-going preparation for the movement of a replacement transformer by the TCN from Irrua, Edo state to Benin to tackle the power outage affecting some parts of the metropolis.

The coordination meeting, the first of its kind in recent times was held last Thursday at BEDC Head Office in Benin and was attended by all business, distribution and technical managers of BEDC across the franchise states and its Executive Management team led by MD/CEO, Mrs. Funke Osibodu, while the Benin regional Office of TCN was led by the General Manager, Engr. Jimi Adetola, AGM, Transmission, Benin sub region Transmission, Isaac Ope, Engr W. Tijani, AGM, the Public Relations Officer, Rufus Imafidon, and other senior operational staff.

In her opening address, CEO of BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu said that the reality of the power sector value chain was that none can survive without the other, saying “Without customer demand there is no disco, without TCN passing power to the disco there is nothing to distribute and without the Gencos there is no generation. No one leg of the value chain if missing can function without the other hence all parts are important.”

She advised that power sector operators should avoid dabbling into the political undertone of power, pointing out that “irrespective of what is going on, we pool resources together in our network to assist, and avoid political undertone”.

The BEDC CEO advised both TCN and BEDC staffers to be careful by respecting the business and technical components of their operations as they affect lives, and should bond together as one chain, stressing that as TCN projects rolled into BEDC, there was need for the two parties to work together to achieve customer satisfaction.

She said in view of the present political clime, power sector operators would be under pressure to satisfy politicians, pointing out however that there must be alignment of purpose, “there will be demand, but don’t forget the commercial side and make customers smile.”

In his own remarks, The General Manager, Benin Zone of TCN, Engr. Jimi Adetola appreciated BEDC management for organizing the meeting against “the backdrop of trying times and we can’t afford to be divided. We can’t do without each other. There must be synergy.”

Engr. Adetola called for closer collaboration between TCN and BEDC saying” we are siblings from same family, we are together”.

The meeting addressed operational issues affecting both parties who are members of the power sector value chain with a view to finding a common ground in resolving them to favour the customers.
