BEDC Restores Power Supply To Delta Communities After Many Years of Outage

It was a joyous event for residents of Illah and Idumuju-Unor communities in Oshimili North and Aniocha North local government areas of Delta State respectively as power supply was restored after many years without electricity supply. The communities have been out of power supply since the defunct PHCN as a result of dilapidated electrical infrastructure.

The restoration of power to these communities by BEDC Electricity Plc marks another land mark to an effective community relation initiative which has facilitated the connection of many communities to national grid across our franchise states.

The commissioning ceremony in Illah took place at the Ogbelani Palace of the Paramount ruler of Illah Community with the Palace Chiefs, representatives of the various Quarters and BEDC officials in attendance.

The Secretary of Illah Electricity Committee, Bar. Onwodi who was elated by the restoration of power to his community, expressed his peoples joy at having electricity supply restored after almost ten years of darkness, despite their proximity to Asaba the State Capital, he stated.

Barr. Onwodi urged residents to protect BEDC infrastructures in their communities. “ we all  must see it  as  a collective responsibilities to protect the electrical installation  from vandalism and refrain from all manner of electricity theft  adding that they should be patient with BEDC in completing the power restoration to the outstanding distribution transformers” he advised.

Addressing the Town Hall meeting, the Head, Community Relations, Mrs. Virginia Osineme commended the people for their patience and informed them of the company’s commitment to ensuring safe and reliable power supply and also increase community access to electricity supply.

The Head Community Relations also appealed to the residents to adhere strictly to safety rules and BEDC safety initiatives in order to ensure total behavioral change in the community. “We will continue to collaborate with you people with the support of the Transformer champions to facilitate operational synergy” she added.

Earlier at the commissioning ceremony of five distribution sub- stations in Idumuju- Unor, his Royal Majesty, Obi of Idumuju-Unor, Obi Charles Chukwuwuike Anyasi (111), his cabinet members, residents of Idumuju-Unor and dancing troupe were present at the Okunya sub-station located at the Market Square to witness the event.

Obi of Idumuju-Unor thanked BEDC for rehabilitating the lines and restoration of power to the community. He urged the residents to reciprocate the gesture by paying their bills promptly.

Mrs. Osineme, informed the Community to apply caution in extending supply to homes to avoid accidents. She advised that illegal connection by communities always neglect the require safety standard practice thereby endangering the lives and properties of electricity users in the Community. She equally explained BEDC customer complaints process, payment channels and the need for the residents to work hand in hand with BEDC officials to be better served.

It will be recalled that on the 25th of December 2018, BEDC restored power supply to the ‘Eka Meta” communities of Ekiti. These communities include; Ikogosi-Ekiti host of the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, Ipole-Iloro, base of Ariata Waterfalls and Erinijiyan Ekiti namely Erinijiyan, Ipoleloro, Ikogosi.
